a free sensory-storytelling play space for young people with learning disabilities and their families
TimbaTime uses storytelling, music, puppetry and sensory play to retell familiar well-known stories in an accessible way for our audiences. The sessions are pop-up delivered in partnership with community and cultural venues across the region. All sessions are delivered outside of school hours and are free for families to enjoy ensuring accessibility. Please watch the video below to find out more about TimbaTime! For booking and more information see below video.
Why did we start TimbaTime?
When speaking to families, they told us the need for more activities for them to enjoy as a family outside of school time. They needed a space to come an enjoy an activity altogether - inclusive of parents, siblings & grandparents (limit per ticket). We recognise that time together to engage in meaningful creative activities is so important in continuing to build relationships within families. They needed a space where they could feel safe and at ease, knowing that access is thought about first and foremost. We recognise that for our families, it can feel overwhelming going to a public space, not knowing what the access will be or what the expectations on their child will be. We wanted to create a space that was free of expectations so that young people with learning disabilities can be free to explore and get creative!
Our aims
To create a supported safe environment where access is thought about first and foremost
To provide a space for the whole family to build connections through engagement in a creative activity
To deliver a fun and engaging sessions for our young people to enjoy!
How is TimbaTime different to your shows?
TimbaTime sessions are a lot more informal in their approach. They are as much an opportunity for families to connect as they are about families engaging with storytelling programmes. They are always based on a familiar story as opposed to our shows which are all original stories.
Special thanks to our funders…
TimbaTime wouldn’t be possible without the support from our funders at The National Lottery Community Fund and LGA Foundation.
“Watching my daughter experience something so special was honestly something I won’t ever forget. What you guys did and the calm yet magical place you took her too was amazing to watch.”
