Our sensory story programme combines storytelling with sensory play to create a fun, playful and supportive environment for your learners to explore and engage with. Every story takes place within an immersive environment that we create based upon the chosen theme of the story, whether that's the jungle or the beach, we will bring it to the classroom!

We have worked closely with schools to build a programme of stories that are accessible to a wide range of young people.

We offer 4 types of sensory story packages;

Single

1 sensory story session lasting approx. 1 hour

Full-Day

3 sensory story sessions lasting approx. 1 hour

Short-Term Placement

3-week programme designed in partnership with your school (9 sessions total) including training and resource material.

Long-Term Placement

6-week programme designed in partnership with your school (18 sessions total) including training and resource material.

Chris Rollings, Head Teacher at Hadrian School

“Hadrian School had the privilege of working in close partnership with TimbaDash in the development of Grubbin’s Wood. The workshops which led to the sensory theatre production were the highlight of our children’s week. They were full of special moments of awe and wonder and captured the engagement of some of our most difficult to reach children superbly. The performance itself was a magical experience thanks to the dedication of the actors and their ability to build relationships quickly and effectively with our children and staff. We would highly recommend this theatre group without reservation.”

 Everything you need to know!

  • This all depends on the young people, their level of need and your numbers of teaching staff present to offer support. We tend to have a maximum of 12 young people in our sessions. However, for young people who have more complex needs then we can reduce this to 6 - 8 young people. When booking we will talk with you and agree on the max number together. We want to ensure that we are prioritising the young people and their experience with us which is why we may lower the capacity sometimes if it feels more appropriate.

  • A huge part of what we do is around skill-sharing with staff so that you can take some ideas back to deliver in the classroom! One teacher after coming attending a sensory story said “I hope you don’t mind but i’m stealing all your ideas” and we replied with “Please do!”.

The learning materials and resources including in the short-term and long-term placements include our session plans, materials and ideas for you to take back with you. It will also include any music that we use as part of the session!

  • We know that space can be tight in schools and so we have developed an offer that is flexible and can pop-up in most spaces. We have delivered sensory stories in halls, classrooms, forest schools and hydro-pools. Depending on the type of story you want and the young people you want to reach we will work with you to find the best space!

  • We can be flexible on time to suit your time-table! However, for a full day of stories we tend to arrive at around 8am and begin setting up in the space. We then usually deliver 2 workshops in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. We begin packing down at around 2pm to make sure we are out of the way before school buses start to arrive for pick-up.

  • We bring all of the materials we need with us however, we do usually ask schools to provide seating - bean bags, cushions etc.

  • We ensure that all Timbadash Theatre staff are DBS checked (available upon request). We also have our safeguarding policy and risk assessment (available upon request)
